The Honeybee optimizer helps to optimize the performance of each connected panel in a photovoltaic installation. Since panels are most often connected in series, a drop in the power of one panel will cause a drop in all panels in series. The performance optimizer solves exactly this problem. Each shaded panel equipped with an optimizer behaves as a separate unit, does not limit other panels, and its energy is connected to the whole. The MPPT algorithm of the optimizer takes care of the maximum yield of the given panel, and helps to overcome losses caused not only by shading, but also by dirt, snow cover, degradation of cells, or uneven performance of individual panels. When purchasing a Swarm receiver and a Beehive data collection unit, it is also possible to use the performance monitoring function of each optimizer remotely using a mobile application and a PC, with clear graphs and traffic statistics over time. At the same time, it will be possible to remotely activate the Rapid shutdown function for immediate suppression of the panel voltage in the event of a malfunction, accident or fire, thus preventing electric shock in the event of an intervention.
Model example: 4 100 W panels are connected in series with a total power of 400 W. One panel begins to be shaded at noon, its power drops to 20 W. Without adding an optimizer to the shaded panel, all panels would be attenuated to 20 W. Total the output would thus be only 80 W.
But if we add an optimizer to the shaded panel, the other panels will not be affected, and the energy of the shaded panel will be added to the rest. The output will then be 320 W compared to the original 80 W.
Attention! The use of optimizers will reduce the voltage of the panels and increase the output current, therefore it is necessary to pay attention to the parameters of regulators and inverters, which might not have sufficient voltage for proper operation, or could be damaged by overcurrent.
